This classic game is perfect for everyone since it doesn’t require any equipment, just your creativity!
Charades is also a fun way to help your kids learn through play. This playful game helps children improve their listening skills, gross motor skills, language skills, and so much more!
How To Play Charades For Kids
Charades is one of the best games simply because of how easy it is!
First, decide on a category of words that you want to act out. Then, write down all of the words on pieces of paper and mix them together in a bowl.
The person who will be acting out first will choose a piece of paper from the bowl. The person acting out must read the word without showing or telling anyone.
That person will then act out the word WITHOUT using any words or noises. They must rely on their body movements and facial expressions.
If playing WITHOUT TEAMS then set a timer for the actor and have everyone guess the word. People can guess until the timer runs out.
If playing WITH TEAMS then set a timer for the actor and only allow the actor’s team to guess the word. If the team guesses correctly within the given time then they get a point. If they do not guess the word in the given time the other team has the opportunity to guess. If the opposing team guesses correctly then they will get a point. If the opposing team does not guess correctly nobody gets a point.
Tips for Playing Charades With Young Children
Children under 3 years of age may have a difficult time playing this game.
When playing charades with younger children, it may be beneficial to print out pictures of the words rather than using the written form. Many children at this age still do not know how to read. Here is a “no reading” charade set from Amazon if you are interested.
I also always allow young children to use props and make noises. These exceptions will make them feel more comfortable when trying to act out the word.
If children are very shy it may be best to have an adult there to help the child.
